Laminated Denim is King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard at their most hypnotic, two fifteen-minute workouts pressed here on orange vinyl.

Released in 2022 as one of three albums the band put out within a matter of weeks, it grew from all six members jamming for hours before the takes were shaped into two long-form pieces. Both songs are built around the ticking of a clock, and the title is an anagram of Made in Timeland, the earlier record it was designed to answer.

"The Land Before Timeland" locks into a relentless motorik pulse and lets the guitars spiral outward, stacking polyrhythms until the whole thing seems to levitate. "Hypertension" pushes harder still, with Michael Cavanagh's krautrock-style drumming driving riffs that twist, fold back on themselves and keep finding new gears.

Where Made in Timeland leaned electronic, this is a psych and prog rock beast, played loose and live by a band that clearly loves getting lost in a groove. Stu Mackenzie handled production, recording and mixing, keeping the sound roomy and gloriously unhurried, with every member audible in the swirl.

Each side holds one complete piece, which makes this a perfect fit for vinyl. Drop the needle, let the clock run out and flip.
