The 2024 album was the first on the band's own p(doom) Records, and it grew out of loose jam sessions where everyone brought ideas into the room and the tape kept rolling. After years of thrash metal and microtonal detours, the Melbourne six-piece leaned back into the bluesy swagger of Fishing for Fishies, and the result sounds like a band having the time of its life. Stu Mackenzie produced, engineered and mixed it himself.

The big twist is the vocals. Nearly every track passes the microphone around, so the album plays like a ramshackle group singalong. "Le Risque," the first single, struts in on a good-time shuffle, while "Hog Calling Contest" is every bit as gleefully unhinged as its title suggests. "Field of Vision" rides an easy, rolling groove, and the seven-minute "Daily Blues" closes the flight with a long, sprawling jam.

It is the sound of six old friends in a room, chasing a groove for the sheer fun of it.

Gizzard devotees will hear a band that can still surprise by simply cutting loose and letting the boogie lead the way.
