Kelsea Ballerini called Unapologetically her first intentional album, and the 2017 follow-up to The First Time sounds exactly like a songwriter taking the wheel.

Her debut had made her one of country's brightest new names, with a run of radio hits that announced a sharp, pop-savvy writer from Tennessee. For the second album she took a bigger hand in both writing and production, working with Jason Massey and Forest Glen Whitehead, and built the record around a clear emotional arc that moves from the wreckage of an old relationship to the happiness of a new one.

"Legends" is the centrepiece, a big, glowing anthem about a love worth remembering that went all the way to number one on country radio. "Miss Me More" flips a breakup into a confident kiss-off, while "I Hate Love Songs" pokes fun at romantic cliches before cheerfully giving in to them. The title track lays her feelings out with plainspoken honesty.

Across twelve songs, the polish never smooths away the personality, and her knack for a conversational line keeps everything relatable. Heartbreak and new romance sit side by side, each handled with a light touch.
