Kelly Finnigan has never treated a B-side as an afterthought, and B-Sides, Singles & Forgotten Gems proves it, gathering ten deep-soul cuts on red vinyl.
Best known as the gravel-and-honey voice of Monophonics, Finnigan has built a parallel solo career on Colemine Records with albums such as The Tales People Tell and A Lover Was Born. Along the way he scattered great songs across seven-inch singles, mixtape exclusives and flipsides, many of them hard to find. This 2026 collection rounds them up, reaching back to "Freedom," a 2011 recording from his earlier days, and finishing with a brand-new song.
His love of classic soul runs deep. "It's Not That Easy" revives a 1960s Reuben Bell side, "Keep Me In Mind" turns a Samson & Delilah song into a duet with Renaldo Domino, and the instrumental "Thom's Hartbreak" tips its cap to Philly soul writers Thom Bell and William Hart. The closing "The Hurting Truth" was cut especially for this release.
The sound is warm and analog throughout, with punchy horns, swelling organ and drums that hit like they were captured in one room on one great night.
For crate diggers and modern soul fans, it's a treasure chest of songs that deserved far more than life on a flipside.
