Kane Parsons and Edo Van Breemen's score for Backrooms arrives as a 2LP set, the uneasy companion to the 2026 A24 film Parsons built from his own viral found-footage videos.
Parsons was still a teenager when his YouTube series turned an internet legend about endless, fluorescent-lit yellow rooms into something genuinely frightening. For the feature version he moved into the director's chair and wrote the music with Van Breemen, the composer behind Osgood Perkins' The Monkey and Keeper. Parsons has named Boards of Canada as a touchstone, and that hazy, slightly warped feeling runs right through these cues.
Twenty-seven pieces stretch across four sides, most of them short and unsettled, more memory than melody. "Handprint" opens the record, "Basement Land" carries the creeping sense of a building that never quite ends, and "Feeling of a Door Imminently Remembered" is about as good a description of the Backrooms mood as any title could manage. "Old Home Not Yet Built" is the emotional anchor, a gentle theme that feels familiar and wrong at the same time.
The music works as well in a dark room late at night as it does alongside the film. Fans of the original videos and of ambient electronic scores with a nervous pulse will find plenty to sink into here.
