Few films have shaped popular song quite like this one. Harold Arlen and Yip Harburg wrote the numbers, Herbert Stothart's score stitched the fantasy together, and Judy Garland gave Dorothy a voice that still stops listeners in their tracks. More than 80 years on, these songs remain part of the shared musical language.

The album runs in story order, and Over The Rainbow sets the emotional bar sky high early on. Munchkinland bursts into colour with Ding-Dong! The Witch Is Dead, and extended versions of If I Only Had A Brain and its companion songs give Ray Bolger, Jack Haley and Bert Lahr extra room to charm.
