John Legend teams up with Pharrell Williams for Muse, a 2026 album that finds one of soul's smoothest voices loosening his tie and having a ball.

The project grew out of Legend's appearance on Clipse's Let God Sort Em Out, the Pharrell-produced reunion of Pusha T and Malice, and the creative spark clearly stuck. Pharrell produced the album in full and co-wrote it, with the pair writing and recording at his studio in Paris. The result draws on a wide sweep of Black music history, from gospel, doo-wop and classic soul to standards, Afrobeat and hip-hop, all given a modern, upbeat twist.

Lead single Daylight sets the mood with warmth and bounce, and Pharrell's voice weaves through several cuts, including the title track and the glowing Fireflies. Clipse return the favour on Bodies On The Floor, adding a sharper edge to the album's sunny surface, while short spoken introductions give the sequence a loose, conversational flow. Legend's piano-man polish meets Pharrell's playful rhythmic instincts, and the chemistry feels easy rather than calculated.

Muse shows a freer side of an artist best known for elegant ballads, one that tips its hat to Nina Simone, Nat King Cole and Marvin Gaye while keeping its feet firmly on the dance floor. It sounds just right on a lazy Sunday morning turntable.
