Under Wraps was Jethro Tull's boldest left turn of the 1980s, and Bruce Soord's 2026 remix revisits it on a single LP, with more natural-sounding drums in place of the originals.

Released in 1984 as Tull's fifteenth studio album, it found Ian Anderson fully embracing synthesizers and programmed rhythms. Keyboard player Peter-John Vettese co-wrote most of the material, and with no drummer in the studio line-up, Anderson handled the drum programming himself. The songs revolve around Cold War intrigue and espionage, shaped by his fondness for spy fiction. Fans were split at the time, and that mechanical drum sound became the album's most debated feature.

That history makes this new mix especially intriguing. Lap of Luxury still bristles with nervy, propulsive energy, now driven by a more human-sounding backbeat, while European Legacy and Saboteur set Martin Barre's guitar against Vettese's gleaming keyboards. Radio Free Moscow, with Dave Pegg's bass pushing it along, closes the first side on a taut, urgent note.

The LP keeps the eleven-track running order of the original vinyl release, giving a misunderstood record a real chance to be heard on new terms. For Tull collectors, it is a fascinating reframe of an album that has steadily gained admirers in the four decades since.
