Inspiral Carpets return with Burn Like The Sun, their first studio album in more than a decade, here on yellow vinyl with an alternate cover, imported from the UK.

The Oldham band were key players in the Madchester era alongside the Stone Roses and Happy Mondays, and this record finds Stephen Holt on vocals alongside Clint Boon, Graham Lambert, Martyn Walsh and Kevin Clark. Recorded at Blueprint Studios in Manchester, it is framed as a continuation rather than a comeback, the sound of a group still evolving and still ambitious.

Lead single "Drag The Bag," produced by Jagz Kooner, shows the band in fighting form, and Boon's keyboards remain their signature colour. The title track "Burn Like The Sun" opens the record, while "Wolf At The Door" and "Us Alone" round out a set that refuses to coast on nostalgia.

The songs deal with truth, grief, love, responsibility and hope, shaped by a stretch that included the loss of drummer Craig Gill in 2016. Light and darkness, distance and rebirth run through the lyrics.

For anyone who wore the cow t-shirt the first time around, this is proof the Inspirals never really stopped, and a strong and welcome new chapter for a band with plenty left to say.
