Hibou is Peter Michel's self-titled debut, dream pop recorded entirely in a walk-in closet, ten years old now and finally reissued on lilac vinyl for the occasion.

Michel built this record alone, home-recorded in the most literal sense, and that intimacy is exactly what carries through the shoegaze haze and reverb-soaked melodies. It found an audience fast for a bedroom project, earning opening slots alongside Metric, Phantogram, and Unknown Mortal Orchestra almost immediately after release, proof that a closet-recorded debut could still hold up next to bands working with proper studio budgets. A decade on, the record still sounds like a genuinely private world rather than a calculated aesthetic.

Dissolve opens the album with the hushed, unhurried pace that defines the whole record, guitars blurred just enough to feel like a memory rather than a performance. Valium leans into the woozier end of the dream pop palette, and Glow carries real warmth beneath its haze, one of the record's most immediate melodies. Keeping Still closes the album exactly as its title suggests, patient and settled rather than reaching for a big finish.

Ten years on, a bedroom record that never needed anything more than what one person could build alone in a closet. Lilac vinyl suits the mood completely.
