Space rock meets biker culture on The Bristol Custom Bike Show Concert 1986, a complete Hawkwind headline set released in full for the first time, on 2LP as a UK import.

By 1986 the band were touring the material from The Chronicle of the Black Sword, their album built around Michael Moorcock's Elric stories, and they were a ferocious live proposition. This line-up featured Dave Brock, Harvey Bainbridge, Huw Lloyd-Langton, Alan Davey and Danny Thompson. Only two tracks from the show had surfaced before, on a 1987 album documenting the event.

The set blends that era's songs with older favourites. "Needle Gun" brings the Moorcock saga roaring to life, "Assault and Battery" reaches back to 1975, and "Master of the Universe" rumbles with the old propulsive drive. The night ends exactly where any self-respecting Hawkwind gig should, with a thundering "Silver Machine."

Newly mixed from the original multitrack tapes, the recording keeps the swirling synths and relentless chug that made the band a fixture of festival fields and biker rallies alike. Across four sides, the set unfolds the way it did on the day, one long hypnotic ride.

For anyone who caught them in leather-and-chrome company, or wished they had, this is a vivid slice of eighties Hawkwind at full throttle.
