Sun Leads Me On is the second album from Montreal's Half Moon Run, a 2015 record that broadens their intricate indie folk into something more expansive and luminous.
The band built their following on multi-instrumental dexterity, with members trading guitars, keys and percussion while weaving close, high harmonies. After the success of their debut, Dark Eyes, they returned with a set that leans further into atmosphere and dynamics, moving easily between hushed, acoustic moments and swelling, layered peaks.
Lead single "Turn Your Love" shows off their rhythmic drive and urgent harmonies, while "Trust," first shared ahead of the album's release, reveals their more contemplative side. "Narrow Margins" and the title track round out a set that rewards close attention to its small details.
Devon Portielje's voice carries a searching, slightly weathered quality that sits beautifully inside the band's careful arrangements. Guitars ring out, drums push and pull, and every song seems to reveal a new layer on repeat listens, from a stray piano line to a harmony tucked deep in the mix.
The album went gold in Canada, and it remains a favourite for fans of thoughtful, harmony-rich indie rock. On vinyl, its spacious production and quiet-to-loud dynamics have all the room they need.
