GWAR and Joe Bob Briggs were always going to end up on the same record. GWAR and the Last Drive-In-Stein is on its way as a single LP, and it is every bit as gloriously trashy as that pairing suggests.
The split album marks more than four decades of the Scumdogs of the Universe and forty years of Briggs on television, as his beloved horror showcase The Last Drive-In wraps up as a regular series. Side one is GWAR's live set from the show's 2025 Halloween special, mixing their own songs with tunes tied to Joe Bob's long-running drive-in world.
Splatter-Fu, written especially for the band by John Brennan, is the headline act, and Gor-Gor drags an old GWAR favourite into the drive-in lights.
Side two belongs to John Brennan and the Bigfeet, the show's house band, with songs written for its final two seasons. Everyone Loves Halloween and Gettin' Ripped At The Drive-In sound exactly like their titles promise, and there is even a demo of Splatter-Fu to compare with the finished carnage.
Equal parts heavy metal theatre, B-movie love letter and late-night variety show, it is a fond send-off for a cult institution, made for anyone who has ever stayed up way too late for a double feature.
