Greensky Bluegrass mark a quarter century together with XXV, a double LP that revisits songs from across their catalogue in the company of some very good friends.
Formed in Kalamazoo, Michigan, in 2000, the band spent those years turning bluegrass instrumentation into a vehicle for long, adventurous jams and heartfelt songwriting. Released to mark the anniversary in 2025, XXV reworks favourites from their past alongside a few songs getting their first studio treatment, giving longtime fans fresh angles on familiar tunes.
The guest roster is a celebration in itself. Billy Strings joins a reimagined "Reverend," a song that first appeared on 2008's Five Interstates, while Sam Bush adds his unmistakable touch to "Can't Stop Now." Nathaniel Rateliff lends his weathered voice to "Past My Prime," and pianist Holly Bowling brings shimmering colour to "Last Winter in the Copper Country."
Lindsay Lou, Aoife O'Donovan, Ivan Neville and more round out the cast, yet the record never feels like a guest list stapled together. The interplay of dobro, banjo, mandolin and guitar still sits at the centre, loose enough to breathe and tight enough to hit hard.
Spread across four sides, XXV plays like a family photo album with the volume turned up. It's a generous thank-you to the fans who have followed them from small bar stages to big amphitheatre nights.
