Good Charlotte hit the dance floor on Good Morning Revival, the 2007 album where the Madden brothers swapped some pop-punk crunch for keyboards and swagger, here on 140-gram coloured vinyl.
The band's fourth studio album was a bold left turn after the darker The Chronicles of Life and Death. Producer Don Gilmore helped steer them toward dance-rock, with guitarist Billy Martin's keyboards pushing to the front of the mix. It split critics at the time, yet it also delivered a string of hit singles, and plenty of fans now hear it as a fearless reinvention rather than a sellout.
"The River" brings in M. Shadows and Synyster Gates of Avenged Sevenfold for a brooding, heavy-hitting team-up, the first time the band had invited outside voices onto a record. "Keep Your Hands Off My Girl" is pure strutting attitude, and "Dance Floor Anthem" delivers exactly what its title promises, a glossy, shout-along breakup song with a pulse built for clubs. "Misery" adds a moodier, more reflective shade to the mix.
The translucent finish is a fitting look for the band's most neon-lit album. Put it on and the mid-2000s come flooding back, eyeliner, studded belts and all. It also captures a band brave enough to change shape at the height of their fame.
