Gojira's Magma turns ten with this upcoming anniversary pressing on black and red vinyl, a fitting colour scheme for the French band's most molten, emotionally raw album.

Released in 2016, Magma was shaped by loss: brothers Joe and Mario Duplantier lost their mother while the record was being made, and that grief seeps into every corner. Recorded at their own studio in New York, it trades some of the sprawling technicality of earlier albums for tighter songs, more clean vocals and a heavier sense of atmosphere that lingers long after the last note.

"Silvera" is the breakout, all lurching pinch-harmonic riffs and a chorus that hits like a landslide. "Stranded" rides a strange, pitch-bent hook that became one of their signature sounds, while "The Shooting Star" opens the album with slow, hypnotic dread. "Low Lands" brings the main stretch to a mournful, gently building catharsis.

Mario Duplantier's drumming remains a force of nature, precise and pummelling, while the production gives every riff enormous weight without losing clarity. Even at its most crushing, the album leaves room for silence, space and the occasional flicker of hope.

A decade later it stands as the record that carried Gojira from metal favourites to genuine heavyweights, and this anniversary edition honours it in style.
