The second half of Glen Hansard's Funkhaus project, Don't Settle (Vol. 2 - Transmissions West) picks up where the East volume left off, live and unvarnished.

Recorded over two nights in 2025 at Berlin's Funkhaus, the old East German broadcast studios, with around 600 people seated in the round each evening, these performances come without overdubs or edits. Together with its companion volume, it forms a living retrospective of Hansard's work with The Frames, The Swell Season and under his own name.

Revelate, the lead single from The Frames' 1995 album Fitzcarraldo, opens the record with a jolt of electricity, while When Your Mind's Made Up, first heard in the film Once, swells from a simmer into a full-throated roar. Her Mercy gathers a stirring, gospel-tinged momentum, and High Hope closes the set on a note of earned optimism. In between, the crowd becomes part of the arrangement, singing back lines, holding its breath in the quiet passages and roaring when the songs finally break open.

There is something old-fashioned and deeply moving about hearing a songwriter trust his songs this completely. For anyone who has stood in a room while Hansard sings, this brings that feeling home, and it pairs naturally with Transmissions East on the shelf.
