Recorded on his 2016 North American dates, the year after The Story of Sonny Boy Slim, the set shows the Austin guitarist at full stretch, blending blues, soul and rock with a touch of hip-hop swagger. It follows his first concert album, Gary Clark Jr. Live, and catches a player who had grown more patient and more daring on the road.

Grinder opens with a heavy, churning groove, and The Healing carries the warm, gospel-tinged lift of the studio version out into the room. When My Train Pulls In, a Blak and Blu favourite, becomes a showcase for his searing, fuzzed-out solos, while his take on Jimmy Reed's Honest I Do shows just how deep his roots in classic Chicago blues really run.

Leon Bridges also stops by for a guest spot, adding his smooth voice to the mix, and the band stays locked in tight behind every twist and turn of Clark's guitar.
