Loss is Gaerea's boldest statement yet, the masked Portuguese collective's 2026 debut for Century Media, pressed here on clear orange vinyl.
Hailing from Porto, the band have kept their identities hidden behind their trademark masks since the very beginning, letting the music do the talking across a run of increasingly ambitious records. Where their early work drew mainly from Scandinavian black metal, Loss widens the frame, folding post-rock textures and more emotionally exposed vocals into the storm. Its nine songs trace a path through grief, transformation and rebirth, a fitting arc for a record with such a stark one-word title.
Lead single "Hellbound" captures the album's crushing intensity and sense of scale, while "Luminary" opens the record and sets the bar high from the first minute. "Phoenix" and closer "Stardust" carry the album's themes of loss and renewal through to the end. The production is massive and layered, giving every tremolo riff, pounding drum and anguished vocal room to land without blurring into noise, and it rewards repeated listens.
For listeners who followed the band through Coma, this is the sound of Gaerea reaching for something even bigger without losing their bite. Turn it up loud, close the curtains and let it wash over you.
