Ace Frehley's second record as Frehley's Comet comes back in expanded form on limited gold vinyl, a shade that suits the man who played the Spaceman in KISS.
Second Sighting arrived in 1988 on Atlantic and Megaforce as Frehley's third solo album and the last released under the Comet name. With Frehley battling illness and his own demons during the sessions, guitarist Tod Howarth stepped up as a singer and songwriter, giving the album a different balance from its predecessor. John Regan held down the bass and Jamie Oldaker took over the drum stool, and the record climbed to number 81 on the Billboard 200.
The sound is pure late-eighties hard rock, all gleaming guitars and big arena choruses. Insane and It's Over Now were picked as singles, both built for radio without losing their bite. Dancin' With Danger reworks a song by Canadian rockers Streetheart, and The Acorn Is Spinning closes the original running order as an instrumental that lets the guitars do all the talking.
This expanded edition adds a remix single version of It's Over Now to the original ten tracks.
For KISS collectors and glam metal diehards, this is a welcome chance to revisit a slightly overlooked chapter of the Frehley story, in a colour fit for a rock star.
