The cool, quiet heart of 1960s French pop beats through En Vogue: Best of 1962-1967, a remastered double LP in a gatefold jacket that gathers Françoise Hardy's defining years.
Hardy was still a teenager in Paris when "Tous Les Garçons Et Les Filles" made her a star in 1962, and she quickly stood apart from the bubbly yé-yé crowd. She wrote much of her own material, sang in a hushed, unshowy voice and carried an air of wistful reserve that won admirers from Bob Dylan to Mick Jagger. These are the songs she cut for the Vogue label, the run that made her an icon on both sides of the Channel.
That breakthrough single still sounds like a diary entry set to music, shy and aching. "Le Temps De L'Amour" rides a twangy, rolling guitar line that later found a new audience on film, while "Mon Amie La Rose" is a fragile meditation on how quickly beauty fades. "La Maison Où J'ai Grandi" closes the circle with a tender look back at childhood.
The arrangements stay simple and elegant, framing that unmistakable voice without ever crowding it.
Hardy died in 2024, and this set is a graceful way to hear why her music never lost its spell.
