Colder, stranger and more synthetic than anything before it, Dopamine Chamber is the fifth Fontaines D.C. album and their boldest swerve yet.

Rather than repeat the swooning grandeur of Romance, the Dublin five-piece reunited with producer James Ford and spent more than a year on this 2026 record across studios in London and Suffolk, while Grian Chatten recorded his vocals separately in a makeshift home setup in Palermo. Chatten has framed the album as a test chamber for mood-altering music, and its subjects fit that clinical premise: artificial intelligence, environmental collapse and political violence, all filtered through the static of memes and celebrity culture.

Six Shot Morning, road-tested at summer shows before release, opens the record, and Marianne follows as the lead single, a song about escapism and hedonism that took its cue from the thriller Ripley. Tongue was picked as the second single, and Where Is Gone? brings in Rosalía, the first guest vocalist the band has ever featured, for a pairing few would have predicted.

Chatten has said he chose to leave hope out and reflect the ugliness honestly, and that refusal gives the album its charge. It can be a bleak listen, but it is also gripping, the sound of a band at the top of its game choosing discomfort over comfort.
