Few debuts arrive with a hit as unstoppable as "Trap Queen," and Fetty Wap's self-titled album returns for its 10th anniversary as a double LP.
Released in 2015, the Paterson, New Jersey rapper's first album turned a run of street anthems into a full-blown pop takeover. His melodic, half-sung delivery and trademark 1738 call-outs blurred the lines between rap and R&B in a way that rippled through the rest of the decade, and the singles kept stacking up, with "Trap Queen," "679" and "My Way" all landing in the Billboard Hot 100 top ten.
"Trap Queen" still sounds like a sweet love song smuggled inside a hustler's tale, its glittering synths and sing-along hook impossible to shake. "679," with longtime collaborator Monty, bounces with Remy Boyz camaraderie, while "My Way" and "Again" show how easily he could turn a simple refrain into an arena-sized chant.
The deep cuts lean into the same formula of bright, bouncing production and hooks stacked on hooks, and the melodies rarely let up.
A decade on, it remains a vivid time capsule of a moment when one voice from New Jersey seemed to be coming out of every car window, and this anniversary pressing gives it the shelf space it earned.
