Father John Misty takes a wry bow with Greatish Hits: I Followed My Dreams and My Dreams Said to Crawl, a 2024 double LP on blue, green and purple splatter vinyl.

The title tells you plenty about Josh Tillman's sense of humor. Rather than a straightforward victory lap, this is a cheeky, carefully sequenced tour through more than a decade of records, from the barroom swagger of Fear Fun to the orchestral sweep of Chloë And The Next 20th Century, with a long-gestating new song tacked onto the end for good measure.

"Real Love Baby" opens on a breezy, AM-radio glow, and "Nancy From Now On" still sounds like heartbreak scribbled on a motel notepad. "Hollywood Forever Cemetery Sings" rattles and stomps with gleeful menace, while "Pure Comedy" unfolds into one of his most cutting looks at the human species, piano and strings swelling beneath every barb.

Tillman's voice is the constant thread, rich and crooning and forever arching an eyebrow at his own romantic excess, even when the songs turn genuinely tender.

Heard back to back, these songs reveal a writer far more consistent than his reputation for mischief suggests, and the new running order makes old favorites feel freshly strange all over again.
