Pressed on 140-gram vinyl, Ooh La La is the rowdy, wistful farewell from Faces, one of the great good-time bands of the 1970s, caught just as they were drifting apart.

Released in 1973 and produced by Glyn Johns, it was the band's fourth and final studio album. Rod Stewart's solo career was taking off and his focus was wandering, which left more room for Ronnie Lane and Ronnie Wood to steer the record toward its warmer, more reflective moments.

Silicone Grown and Cindy Incidentally swagger with the loose-limbed charm of a band that always sounded best slightly worse for wear, Stewart's rasp riding on Ian McLagan's rolling keys and Kenney Jones' easy backbeat. Borstal Boys roars along with ragged energy, a reminder of just how hard this lot could rock when they felt like it.

Then there's the closing title track, sung by Wood, a bittersweet piece of advice handed down from an older generation that only grows more poignant with every passing year. It has become one of the best-loved songs in the Faces story, the sound of hindsight set to a gentle strum.

For anyone who loves British rock at its most unbuttoned and human, this is a treasure, and a fine way to remember a band that never took itself too seriously.
