Ezra Collective's Dance, No One's Watching is a jazz record built for movement, a 2024 double LP that plays like one long night out in London.

The five-piece arrived here as reigning Mercury Prize winners, having become the first jazz act to take the award with Where I'm Meant to Be in 2023. Rather than slow down, drummer and bandleader Femi Koleoso and his bandmates doubled down on joy, shaping the album around the arc of an evening, from the cloakroom queue to the moment the lights come on.

Afrobeat, jazz, soul, reggae and hip-hop all mingle freely. "God Gave Me Feet for Dancing" sets out the thesis early, with Yazmin Lacey's warm, unhurried vocal gliding over a rolling groove. "Ajala" is pure horn-driven celebration, while "N29" carries a restless, after-midnight energy. Short interludes link each act of the night together, giving the whole thing a cinematic sweep from start to finish.

Olivia Dean also drops by, adding a soulful glow to one of the album's warmest moments, and the closing stretch keeps the floor moving right to the end.

This is music to put on when the furniture needs pushing back, proof that improvisation and pure, uncomplicated fun can share the same stage.
