Escape the Fate's 2006 debut EP There's No Sympathy for the Dead returns as a limited ruby red reissue, five songs that announced a hungry Las Vegas band to the world.

The original lineup, fronted by Ronnie Radke, cut these tracks with producer Michael Baskette, and the result was their first release for Epitaph, the storied punk label that had just signed them. Two of its songs went on to anchor their debut album, Dying Is Your Latest Fashion, later that same year, which makes this the true starting point of the band's story.

The sound sits right where mid-2000s screamo met metalcore, with twin guitars, keyboard flourishes and Radke's sneering melodies cutting against throat-shredding screams. The title track builds into a dramatic, swaggering anthem, "As You're Falling Down" shows the band's knack for a soaring chorus, and "The Guillotine" launched a song series they would return to again and again on later albums. "Dragging Dead Bodies in Blue Bags Up Really Long Hills" opens proceedings with a title as gleefully over the top as the music.

At around twenty minutes, it is a short, sharp shot of theatrical post-hardcore from a band with plenty to prove.

For fans who came up in the MySpace era, this red pressing is a vivid reminder of where it all started.
