Eric Carr kept writing songs right up until 1991, and Rockology gathers the demos the beloved KISS drummer left behind, here on a numbered, liquid-filled pressing.
Recorded between the mid and late 1980s, these tracks find Carr stepping out from behind the kit to sing lead and handle much of the guitar, bass and keyboard work himself. A few were pitched for KISS albums, while others were written for Rockheads, an animated series he was developing. Longtime bandmate Bruce Kulick, who played lead guitar on the original demos, later finished the project, releasing it in 1999 with new solos where the originals had been left open.
The songs are pure big-chorus hard rock. "Eyes of Love" and "Somebody's Waiting," both written with KISS in mind, carry the polished melodic punch of the band's late-80s records, and Kulick's added solos slot in as if they had always been there. "Too Cool for School" and "Nasty Boys" lean into the cartoon-ready fun of the Rockheads idea, with a wink.
What comes through most is Carr himself, front and centre as a singer and songwriter, a side of him KISS fans only caught in glimpses.
For the KISS Army, it is a heartfelt time capsule, and the liquid-filled disc makes it a striking piece to display between spins.
