Enanitos Verdes' Big Bang lands as a colored vinyl Argentina import, bringing back the 1994 album that carried the Mendoza band's melodic rock across the Spanish-speaking world.
By their seventh studio album, Marciano Cantero, Felipe Staiti and Daniel Piccolo had been making records for a decade, but Big Bang was the first they produced themselves, working alongside Gustavo Borner. The result is clean, guitar-driven and full of hooks, with Cantero's warm, slightly weary voice right at the center.
Lamento Boliviano is the song everyone knows, a rousing lament of drunken heartbreak first written by the Argentine band Alcohol Etílico, which has since become a staple of radio, stadiums and karaoke nights from Buenos Aires to Mexico City. Mejor No Hablemos De Amor opens the record on a bittersweet note, while Celdas and Mi Primer Día Sin Ti reveal the tender, reflective side that balances the anthems.
More than three decades later, with four singles drawn from its thirteen tracks, the album still plays like a greatest hits set in disguise.
For anyone who grew up with these songs pouring out of car stereos, and for newer listeners finding their way into rock en español, this colorful pressing is an easy way to hear Big Bang loud, warm and from start to finish.
