Signed and Sealed in Blood catches Dropkick Murphys in full pub-anthem mode, a 2013 album presented here on two LPs.

The Boston band's eighth album was recorded at Q Division Studios in Somerville, Massachusetts, with producer Ted Hutt, who had already helped them shape Going Out in Style. It takes its title from a lyric in "Rose Tattoo" and marked the final album with Scruffy Wallace on bagpipes and whistles.

"The Boys Are Back" opens with a pint-raising roar of gang vocals and pounding drums, and "Prisoner's Song" hurtles along at a breakneck folk-punk clip. "Rose Tattoo" slows things to a swaying, heart-on-sleeve singalong about the ink people carry as memories, and it quickly became one of the band's best-loved songs.

Then comes "The Season's Upon Us", a Christmas song with a mischievous streak that sketches a family gathering going gloriously off the rails. Elsewhere the band mixes Celtic punk sprints with tough, terrace-ready choruses, and the record never sits still for long, with bagpipes, accordion and banjo all fighting for room in the mix.

With the album split over four sides, the songs have space to land, and it still works as the soundtrack to any night that needs a chorus everyone can shout back at the speakers.
