Django Django narrow their focus on Doveland, a sixth studio album shaped by grief, memory and the search for a place that might never have existed.

After years of happily hopping between genres, the band set themselves a tighter brief this time, working through extended sessions in the German countryside with producer Nick McCarthy, formerly of Franz Ferdinand, and composer Polly Ester. The record is also their first release for the Clouds Hill label.

The title comes from an internet urban myth about a vanished town in rural Wisconsin. It is not a concept album about that place, but the idea of chasing somewhere impossible runs through the songs, which were written as members of the band were coming to terms with losses in their own families. Memory, isolation and brief human connection sit at the center of the lyrics.

Lead single "Cameos" takes its cue from J.G. Ballard's novel Concrete Island, turning the idea of playing a small part in someone else's story into one of the album's most striking moments. London's Hak Baker joins on "Little Me", and Max Pope lends his voice to the closing "Feel Alright".

Even the cover, built from riverbank finds arranged by mother-and-daughter mudlarking team Northern Mudlarks, fits a record so attentive to what gets left behind.
