Diplo heads down a darker, bass-rattling backroad on d00mscrvll, a 2026 phonk album pressed on colored vinyl.
The producer has spent two decades chasing new sounds, from founding Mad Decent to Major Lazer and a long run of crossover hits, so it's no surprise he eventually fell for phonk, the gritty internet-born style built on Memphis rap samples, cowbell patterns and distorted 808s. He launched the d00mscrvll alias with a first volume in 2025, and this full-length expands the idea to seventeen tracks.
The guest list runs straight to the genre's roots. Juicy J and Project Pat, the Memphis brothers tied to Three 6 Mafia, turn up again and again, including on "Skittles" and "Flashlight," while Kodak Black slides into "Loitering" and Yo Gotti takes over "My Money." Newer phonk names such as Kordhell, DVRST and Odetari bring the modern edge, and Italian dance veteran Benny Benassi joins in too.
It's a heavy, hypnotic ride from start to finish, full of chopped vocal loops, rumbling low end and the kind of drift-ready tempos that soundtrack gym sessions and late-night car videos.
For phonk heads and longtime Diplo followers alike, it's a fascinating left turn from one of dance music's great shape-shifters, and proof he still loves a reinvention.
