Destroy Boys spent about two years making Funeral Soundtrack #4, and the 2024 album shows it, a sharper and more searching punk record from the Sacramento band, here on transparent red vinyl.
Formed in 2015 by singer Alexia Roditis and guitarist Violet Mayugba, Destroy Boys built their name on scrappy, shouted, deeply personal punk. Their fourth album, released through Hopeless Records, is the one the band call their post-pandemic record. Mayugba came up with the title on a European tour, and the songs circle the big life events that knock you sideways and make you rebuild.
Producer Carlos de la Garza, working with the band for the first time, brought a pop sensibility to the sessions without sanding off the punk edge. "Beg for the Torture" and "Shadow (I'm Breaking Down)" pair tight hooks with real bite, and "Plucked" keeps the energy restless and wiry. "You Hear Yes" brings in guests Scowl and Mannequin Pussy, while "Boyfeel" closes the record with a wink and a bruise.
At a little over half an hour, it never outstays its welcome, which is very punk of it. This red pressing suits songs this loud and this honest, and it marks the moment Destroy Boys grew up without calming down.
