Toilet humour and heartbreak share the grooves on Descendents' Enjoy!, the 1986 album presented here in its Punk Note Edition.

Enjoy! was the third full-length from the South Bay punks, recorded at Radio Tokyo in Venice with drummer Bill Stevenson producing. It followed three tours behind I Don't Want to Grow Up and was the only album with bassist Doug Carrion and the last with guitarist Ray Cooper, giving it a one-off chemistry. The band leaned hard into crude jokes, right down to the cover art, but the songwriting underneath is sharper than the gags suggest.

Milo Aukerman's voice carries the melodic side, best heard on Get the Time and Sour Grapes, two bittersweet tunes that sit comfortably among the band's finest. Wendy turns a Beach Boys song into a buzzing, sped-up confession, while Days Are Blood stretches to nearly eight minutes, a heavy, metal-tinged epic and the longest song the band ever recorded.

It is a lopsided, funny and frequently brilliant record, and the Punk Note Edition gives it a fresh frame without sanding off what made it divisive and lovable in the first place. Put it next to Milo Goes to College and hear how quickly this band was growing up, whether they liked it or not.
