Descendents' All is the 1987 album that turned a fishing-trip joke into a full-blown philosophy, pressed here on purple and blue vinyl.

The concept of All, going for the utmost and refusing to settle for some, was dreamed up years earlier by drummer Bill Stevenson and his friend Pat McCuistion, and it became the band's guiding ethos. This was the first Descendents album with guitarist Stephen Egerton and bassist Karl Alvarez, and Stevenson produced the sessions at Radio Tokyo in Venice, California, as well as pounding the kit with trademark ferocity.

It was also Milo Aukerman's final album with the band before he stepped away to pursue a career in science, leaving the others to carry on under the name All. He signs off in style. Coolidge and Clean Sheets show off the band's gift for packing big hooks into tight, fast songs, while the title track and No, All! spell out the philosophy itself with gleeful conviction.

With its blend of hardcore speed, pop hooks and goofball humour, All is a key branch of the pop-punk family tree, and a record that still sounds remarkably fresh and full of life almost four decades later. The purple and blue vinyl makes a suitably vivid home for it.
