Deep Purple sound anything but retired on Splat!, their 24th studio album, released in 2026 on 180-gram double vinyl in a gatefold sleeve with a booklet.

Reunited once more with producer Bob Ezrin, the band recorded the album the way they always have, playing together live in the studio. The current line-up of Ian Gillan, Roger Glover, Ian Paice, Don Airey and Simon McBride has built real chemistry on the road, and the band has called this their heaviest album in many years. Conceptually, it imagines the end of humanity as a transformation rather than a catastrophe, handled with plenty of wry humour.

Arrogant Boy kicks things off with a confident, riff-heavy swagger, and Diablo pushes into some of the album's most adventurous territory. The Only Horse in Town gallops at full pace, while the closing title track grooves with self-assured ease.

Paice, the only member to play on every Deep Purple album, still drives the band with remarkable swing, and Gillan's voice carries the wit and bite his lyrics demand.

More than five decades after their debut, Deep Purple are still making records with purpose and a sense of fun. Splat! is a loud, lively late chapter that sits comfortably alongside their classic work.
