Twenty-five years in, Death From Above 1979 mark the milestone with Private Lives, their fifth album, pressed here on clear gold vinyl.

Jesse F. Keeler and Sebastien Grainger have always done a lot with very little: bass, drums, one voice and enough volume to rattle the walls. Their first album since 2021's Is 4 Lovers grew largely from unused demos the pair had privately cherished for years, reworked into something sharper, and it arrives in 2027 through Last Gang, their original label home.

The title track opens the record as a declaration of privacy in an era of overexposure, set to the band's trademark collision of distortion and danceable swing. Mystery brings in Brazilian electro-rock group CSS as guests, a pairing that will delight anyone who remembers the mid-2000s indie dance boom. Escape From Steeltown and Late Stage Liberal round out a lean, ten-song set.

The duo frame it as a renewed commitment to the raw power of electricity, which is exactly what they have always traded in. Keeler's bass still does the work of an entire guitar section, and Grainger still sings from behind the kit as if the two jobs were one.

For fans who first caught them two decades ago, it is proof that two instruments, played loud enough, can still sound enormous.
