Half a century after its release, Station To Station returns as a 50th anniversary edition, remastered and half-speed mastered on a single LP.

Recorded in Los Angeles in late 1975 and released in 1976, the album introduced the Thin White Duke, the coolest and most unsettling of David Bowie's characters. It sits between the plastic soul of Young Americans and the Berlin experiments that began with Low, and both pulls are audible in its grooves. Bowie co-produced with Harry Maslin, chasing a sound that was part American funk band, part European machine music.

The ten-minute title track opens with the sound of a train before building into a driving rock workout, one of the boldest openers of his career. "Golden Years" glides on a slinky, sophisticated groove, and "Stay" showcases the interlocking guitars of Carlos Alomar and Earl Slick over a relentless rhythm section.

The closing "Wild Is the Wind" slows everything down for one of the finest ballad performances he ever recorded, a cover he made completely his own.

With just six songs and not a wasted minute, it remains one of the most distinctive records in his catalogue. Half-speed mastering suits its dense, layered production, which makes this edition a smart upgrade for a well-loved copy.
