Converge caught everyone off guard in 2026 by following one new album with another, and Hum of Hurt arrives here on red and yellow vinyl.
It landed just four months after Love Is Not Enough. Rather than release a double album, the Massachusetts band split a late burst of writing into two shorter records, and this one carries more of the noise rock spirit they first had in mind when the sessions began.
Kurt Ballou recorded and mixed it, as he has for so much of their catalog, and the lineup of Jacob Bannon, Ballou, Nate Newton and Ben Koller sounds as ferocious and locked-in as ever. Opener "Slip the Noose" and "Doom in Bloom" lurch between chaos and crushing weight, while the title track, surprise-released as the lead single, finds Bannon turning the lens squarely on himself. "Nothing Is Over" brings the record to its close.
The title refers to the hum of the Earth itself, which Bannon imagines as all the world's pain gathered into a single signal. It's heavy stuff, delivered with the raw urgency that has made the band a reference point for metalcore and hardcore for more than three decades.
For fans of their recent run, this is a sharp, essential companion to Love Is Not Enough, and proof the fire still burns.
