Colin Hay's Going Somewhere is the sound of a seasoned songwriter at ease with himself, and this limited edition presses it on 140-gram brown vinyl.

Released in 2001, the album arrived long after Hay's years fronting Men at Work, at a point when the Scottish-born, Melbourne-raised singer had settled into life as a solo troubadour. It is a stripped-back affair, built around acoustic guitar and that distinctive, plainspoken voice, and it remains one of the best-loved records of his solo career.

Waiting for My Real Life to Begin is the emotional centerpiece, a tender, self-deprecating song about the gap between the life we plan and the one we actually live. Beautiful World opens the album with gentle optimism, while Looking for Jack and Wayfaring Sons revisit songs that gave their names to his first two solo albums, heard here in fresh, unhurried form.

His humor is never far away, and neither is the ache, which is what makes these songs feel so lived-in. Every line sounds like it was sung to a room full of friends, late in the evening with nowhere else to be.
