Cheap Trick's One On One is set for a limited edition pressing on 180-gram green vinyl, imported from Holland, bringing back the band's hard-hitting 1982 return.
It arrived nearly two years after All Shook Up, produced by Roy Thomas Baker, the studio heavyweight behind early Queen and The Cars, and it introduced new bassist Jon Brant. Behind the scenes the lineup was in flux, and Rick Nielsen ended up playing bass on most of the record himself, though you would never guess it from the confident, punchy results.
Baker gave the songs a harder, glossier shine, pairing Nielsen's wall of guitars with gleaming early-1980s synths. If You Want My Love is a McCartney-flavored lament that Nielsen counts among his favorite Cheap Trick recordings, while She's Tight struts with a sly, rubbery groove. I Want You crashes in with arena-sized bluster, and Time Is Runnin' puts Robin Zander's raspy power at full throttle.
Both If You Want My Love and She's Tight earned heavy rotation on MTV, and the album remains a fan favorite from the band's 1980s run, a bridge between their classic 1970s sound and the decade's sleeker style. On colored vinyl it makes a bright addition to any Cheap Trick shelf.
