Éxitos Eternos: Centennial Edition marks 100 years since Celia Cruz's birth, seventeen tracks of remastered essentials pressed on copper vinyl for the occasion.
She left Cuba in 1960 and never returned, building a career in exile that somehow only grew larger, La Guarachera de Cuba becoming, decades later, the undisputed Queen of Salsa across an entire hemisphere. More than ten million records sold, a Rolling Stone ranking among the greatest singers ever committed to tape, and in 2024 her face on an American quarter, the first Afro-Latina to appear on US currency. This collection leans into what made her that essential, not just the hits but the collaborations, a career built as much on generosity toward other artists as on her own unmistakable voice.
Quimbara, captured live, is Cruz at her most explosive, that famous shout of a voice cutting straight through the band. La Vida Es Un Carnaval carries the philosophy she preached for decades, joy as a deliberate choice rather than an accident of circumstance. Guantanamera, also live and featuring La India, pairs two generations of the genre's greatest voices, and Soy Loco Por Ti América brings in Caetano Veloso for one of the record's most unexpected pairings.
