Carín León sheds his skin on MUDA, a bold 2026 album that carries the Sonoran star well beyond the borders of regional Mexican music, pressed here on colored vinyl.
The title has a double meaning. It nods to Hermosillo, the hometown whose H sits silent, and to a muda de piel, the shedding of skin, which is exactly what these fourteen songs set out to do. After a run of award-winning records made him one of the biggest voices in música mexicana, León worked with longtime collaborator Edgar Barrera among his producers, and he clearly had no interest in repeating himself.
The genre-hopping feels joyful rather than calculated. "Carranga" draws on Colombian folk traditions with help from Juanes, "Bingo" brings in Venezuelan band Rawayana, and "Ay Lupita" closes the album with a modern spin on mambo and quebradita that is impossible to sit still through. Elsewhere, "En La Misma Cama" and "Ruca" show off the big, weathered voice that made him a star, moving from heartbreak to devotion with real swagger.
Salsa, blues, cumbia, rock and norteño all find room here, held together by León's warmth and instinct.
For fans who have followed him from Hermosillo to the world's biggest stages, MUDA is the sound of an artist taking risks and landing them.
