Half a century after their first gigs, Buzzcocks are still writing short, sharp songs with real bite, and Attitude Adjustment proves it.
This is the second album since Pete Shelley's death in 2018, and Steve Diggle, the band's guitarist since 1977, is firmly at the wheel on vocals, guitar and keyboards. The same rhythm section that played on Sonics in the Soul returned with him to the same London studio in early 2025, with Lawrence Loveless co-producing alongside Diggle. Released in 2026, the record comes wrapped in a sleeve designed by Malcolm Garrett, the man behind the band's classic artwork.
Diggle has called it punk rock with a Motown vibe, and that bounce runs right through the rhythm section. Queen of the Scene, the lead single, opens the album at a sprint, and Poetic Machine Gun fires off its point in well under three minutes. Seeing Daylight and Break That Ball and Chain stretch out a little further, giving the melodies room to land. Two brief fragments of One of the Universe act as palate cleansers between the bigger songs.
It sounds like a band enjoying itself rather than guarding a legacy.
Fans who grew up on the singles will find plenty of familiar spark here, sharpened by decades of road miles and a refusal to slow down.
