Brand New tore up their own rulebook with Daisy, the raw, abrasive 2009 album now pressed on 180 gram vinyl with a download insert.

Their fourth album was co-produced by the band and longtime collaborator Mike Sapone at his studio in Bethpage, New York, between 2008 and 2009. Fresh from touring The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me, the band wanted to capture the energy of their live shows, channelling the noise of Fugazi, Sonic Youth, Polvo, My Bloody Valentine and The Jesus Lizard. Guitarist Vincent Accardi took a bigger role than ever, writing much of the music and sharing lyrics with Jesse Lacey. It debuted at number six in the US, their first top ten album.

The result is loud and jagged. Opener "Vices" sets the tone with a jolt, and "At the Bottom", the only single, coils and simmers before its cathartic release. "Gasoline" and "Sink" push the noise further still, swinging between bruised melody and full-throated screaming.

Fans were divided at the time, and that is part of the appeal: Daisy is the sound of a band refusing to repeat itself. Years on, it stands as one of the boldest left turns in 2000s alternative rock, and a cult favourite that rewards repeat plays.
