Will Oldham has spent decades sounding like a neighbor with old secrets, and We Are Together Again, his 2026 album as Bonnie "Prince" Billy, gathers a whole circle of friends around those secrets.
Oldham co-produced the record with Jim Marlowe in his hometown of Louisville, Kentucky, and the local ties run deep. Lacey Guthrie, Tory Fisher and Katie Peabody of the Louisville band Duchess add their voices to the opening and closing songs, Catherine Irwin sings with him on "Hey Little," and his brother Ned Oldham is among the players.
That communal spirit shapes everything. "Why Is the Lion?" opens the album with a chorus of friendly voices around him, and the closing song brings those same singers back to complete the circle. In between, the first single "They Keep Trying to Find You" shows how much feeling he can tuck into a plain, unhurried melody, while "Hey Little" adds clarinet and strings for one of the tenderest moments here.
The songs still circle the big questions, fear, love, children and mortality, with the odd humor he has always smuggled into dark corners. A title like "Life Is Scary Horses" gives away the tone: wry, strange and deeply human.
For longtime followers, it's a warm, close-knit chapter in one of American music's most singular catalogs.
