Ten years after it scrambled everything fans thought they knew about Bon Iver, 22, A Million returns in a 10th anniversary edition pressed on silver vinyl.

Released in 2016, Justin Vernon's third Bon Iver album swapped the hushed woodsmoke of For Emma, Forever Ago for something far stranger: chopped samples, splintered vocals and song titles built from numbers and symbols. Recorded at April Base in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, and produced by Vernon with Chris Messina, it debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 and picked up a Grammy nomination for Best Alternative Music Album.

Much of its character comes from a custom harmonizer Messina designed for the band, which turns Vernon's voice into a choir of fractured selves. "22 (Over Soon)" opens on a looping, sun-bleached mantra, "715 - Creeks" strips everything back to one processed voice wrestling with itself, and "8 (Circle)" swells with Colin Stetson's saxophones into the most openly tender moment on the record. Elsewhere, "33 'God'" lurches between piano hymn and static, with brass, synths and found sounds drifting through like weather.

A decade on, it still sounds like a transmission from somewhere just off the map, bruised yet oddly comforting. Silver suits it perfectly, a cool shimmer for a record that still glows in the dark.
