Magnolia Leflore reunites Detroit rapper Boldy James with producer Your Boy Posca for a tight 2025 EP, pressed on tan vinyl.
Boldy has built one of underground rap's most consistent catalogues by working closely with single producers, from The Alchemist to Real Bad Man. His first project with Posca, the 2024 EP 1LB (One Lucky Bastard), came out on the Near Mint label, and this follow-up returns to the same partnership and the same home.
Five songs keep things focused. "Nancy Botwin" takes its name from the suburban dealer at the heart of Weeds, a fitting reference for an MC who narrates the hustle with a weary, deadpan cool. "Heavy Rooted" and "Oasis" show off his matter-of-fact flow, all clipped detail and hard-won calm, while "Clorox" brings in Mike Shabb for a guest verse.
Instrumental versions of all five tracks round out the record, so Posca's production gets its own spotlight once the verses fall away. It is a smart touch for a project this lean, and a gift for anyone who likes to hear how the beats breathe.
Short, sharp and built for repeat plays, Magnolia Leflore is another strong entry in Boldy's prolific run, and the tan pressing adds a warm touch to the shelf.
