Blood Spilled marks a stark, intimate return for Blonde Redhead, pressed here as a limited 7-inch single with a previously unreleased B-side.

The New York trio of Kazu Makino and twin brothers Amedeo and Simone Pace have spent more than three decades turning tension into beauty, moving from the jagged art-rock of their nineties records to the lush, slow-burning dream pop of their later work. Their 2023 album Sit Down for Dinner wrestled with adulthood and the bonds that hold people together, and this new song pushes even further inward.

Makino wrote it after a period of profound grief, and she has described it as a meditation on death and on the soul's freedom beyond the body. Few bands are better suited to carrying a subject that heavy, and the song approaches it with the delicacy and quiet resolve that have long defined their best work.

On the flip, Crimson Door offers a previously unheard companion piece, giving collectors a reason to keep the turntable spinning a little longer.

It's a small record that carries real emotional weight, and a fitting next step for a band that has always made vulnerability sound strong. It belongs on the shelf right beside their albums.
