Painstream is the sixth studio album from Finnish metal outfit Blind Channel, pressed on 140-gram vinyl, and it turns shared pain into fuel for their biggest, most cinematic songs yet.

The band won a huge new audience when they represented Finland at Eurovision in 2021, and they have spent the years since sharpening a sound that slams nu metal crunch into pop hooks and arena-sized choruses. This time they produced the record themselves, writing around what felt honest to the group rather than what anyone expected of them.

The title blends pain and mainstream, a neat summary of the whole project, and the songs explore hurt on personal, social and existential levels while holding firmly on to hope. Diana is a riff-driven broadside about people tearing each other down, and No Encores In A Swan Song feels purpose-built for festival crowds.

Elsewhere, Stars We See flips an existential crisis into something celebratory, while Into The Void brings in Aaron Pauley of Of Mice & Men to wrestle with where humanity might be heading next.

Twelve tracks in roughly 37 minutes, with no fat on the bone and barely a breather. It is a lean, loud record from a band that knows how to make heaviness feel communal.
